Hello there! My name is Sam and I am a Crochet Fashion Designer. I have been crocheting for several years now, and while there were many different forms of motivation that inspired me to begin the craft, my main reasoning has mostly been that I have always wanted to create my own clothing. While I tried my hand at sewing a few different times, it was apparent that it was not quite for me (not to mention expensive). Crochet and I were probably meant to be, because I have never fallen in love with any creative medium faster. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t feel so meant to be at first when I couldn’t even make straight edges. Although generally I am a very impatient person, I kept at it and continued to practice and after a few months it had paid off and I had actually managed to make my first top!
It wasn’t until the past couple years that fashion itself became very important to me, any picture of me from high school is more than enough proof! The more that I began to understand fashion, the more I would design outfits it my head thinking ” Wouldn’t it be so cool if this exact piece of clothing that i’m imagining existed??” and after putting two and two together, it dawned on me, I can MAKE that exact piece of clothing exist by creating it myself. Once I realized that, there was certainly no going back. Ever since I have been trying to understand design and fashion even more, figuring out what I do and don’t like, and overall just trying to find my personal style. As you may or may not have noticed by most of my material, this is all done with the help of my little sidekick Archie (pictured below, looking like the stud he is), who is always happy to lay on top of whatever project I am working on and fuel my procrastination.
(Here I was thinking the hardest part of this about me section would be to write about myself, but in reality it was choosing a picture of him because he is the cutest)
If there is anything I have learned in the past few years, it is that a creative lifestyle journey is very fun, but is also very difficult and can be very taxing. I want to share both sides of the story with you and hope that we can all feel a little less alone in our creative endeavors!
